In contrast to the view that most young people are economically inactive, a majority will be found to be marginally involved in some form of work. What is lacking is the kind of support mechanisms that would enable them make a living out if such activities. This has often led to calls for quick-fix youth employment schemes that have little regard for economic principles or the enterprise skills required to develop sustainable micro enterprises. The Zungua program offers a different approach, targeting youth in agriculture and trading.

1.Young Farmers Forum (YFF) The YFF program targets youth who have a strong connection with the rural area and who view their best options for employment in agriculture, introducing them to farming and agriculture related careers. Our objective is to help young farmers learn to operate in a new business environment in which the success and profitability is linked to external factors which require thinking outside of their traditional practices and norms. Priority will be to pursue contract based production for bulk buyers or out grower’s type activities.

2. Young Traders Forum (YTF) The YTF targets youth who have migrated to urban areas and are interested in trading activities. Our objective is to help young traders develop new networks, improve their knowledge of the markets, increase access information and financial products that will enhance their competitiveness and creativity in the marketplace. Priority will be to help them build viable businesses that can service low end government tenders and other supply opportunities in the commercial sectors in line with the related goals of vision 2030 of reserving 30% of such transactions for micro entrepreneurs.

Each project will be part of an organized and supervised program of work. The projects will be planned and operated with the help of experienced advisers to ensure successful delivery of the business development services. Corporate Renewal Centre will remain a focal point of reference and coordination for all teams, sponsors, mentors, coaches and for general purposes of PR.
